Berlin, New Hampshire

Berlin is located in northern New Hampshire along the Androscoggin River in Coos County. Originally named Maynesborough, the town was reincorporated as the town of Berlin in 1829. Berlin was incorporated as a city in 1897, and is known as 'The City That Trees Built'. Today, the pulp and paper mills have been replaced by other structures including correctional facilities. With its close proximity to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Berlin visitors can enjoy easy access to skiing, hiking, snowmobiling, and other summer and winter activities. Come out and play!

Northern Forest Heritage Park is a logging history museum and visitor center in the Heart of the North Country. Here you will learn how the power of the Androscoggin River played an important role in the logging industry in the 19th Century. Heritage Park is located at 961 Main Street. Berlin is home to the White Mountains Community College main campus, located at 2020 Riverside Drive. WMCC offers 20 associate degrees and 23 certificate programs. Helping students succeed is what they are all about.

The St. Kieran Community Center for the Arts, located at 155 Emery Street, features a variety of cultural events each year. Welcome Spring with the Ultimate Brass Quintet on March 21st, or attend the Spring Chamber Concert presented by the International Musical Arts Institute on April 11th. Be sure to pause a moment to take in the beauty of the Center itself, formally the St. Kieran Church.

The Berlin/Coos County Historical Society maintains the Moffet House Museum and Genealogy Center at 119 High Street. Hours are Tues-Sat from 12-4pm, and Wednesday 6-8pm. There is no admission charge.

Take a scenic drive to Cates Hill on the west side of Berlin. Bring your camera, and capture the beauty of the White Mountains and the surrounding New Hampshire countryside!

Jericho Mountain State Park, one of the newest members of the NH state park system, is a great place to enjoy mountain biking, ATV riding, and snowmobiling. The park also features swimming, fishing, canoeing, and picnicking at Jericho Lake. Visit the website to become familiar with local rules and laws as well as trail information.

For an excellent breakfast or lunch, make your way to Tea Birds Cafe at 105 Main Street. Everything is home made, and folks are raving over the service and atmosphere as well as the food. At breakfast, try the home baked muffins. For lunch, try the Rubin sandwich! You will not leave hungry.

When you are in the mood for Chinese food, the place to go is Wang's Garden at 161 Main Street. The friendly staff and authentic Chinese food will keep you coming back. If Japanese food is more your style, make your way south on Route 16 to Yokohama Restaurant at 288 Main Street in Gorham.

Pizza lovers will want to try Tony's Pizza & Sub Shop at 102 Main Street in Berlin. Does Tony's serve the best wraps in the world? Some research may be in order. In the mood for something different? Tony's Pizza also serves items with a Mexican influence.
