Concord, New Hampshire

Located in south central New Hampshire, the city of Concord is the state capital and the county seat of Merrimack County. The area was settled by the English in 1725, and was incorporated in early 1734 as Rumford. The town was renamed Concord in 1765 by Governor Benning Wentworth. Here is a map of Concord.

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is located at 2 Institute Drive. Their mission is to educate, incite, and entertain learners of all ages in the sciences and humanities by actively engaging them in the exploration of astronomy, aviation, Earth and space science. Be sure to visit the Planetarium, the Observatory, and the Science Store. Adult general admission is $9. Hours are 10am to 5pm, Fridays 10am to 9pm.

Concord is home to the Franklin Pierce Law Center, the only law school in the state. It is also the location of the New Hampshire Technical Institute, a two-year Community College. Lake park, Concord NH

The Museum of New Hampshire History is located at 6 Eagle Square. Exhibits include the world-famous Concord Coach, the stagecoach that won the American West. You will also find 19th century paintings, furniture, and much more.

The New Hampshire State House is located at 41 Green Street in downtown Concord. Tour hours are weekdays, 8am to 4:30pm. This is the oldest State House in the US in which the legislature still occupies its original chambers.

Longyear Museum is a historical museum dedicated to the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy, founder of Christian Science. The Mary Baker Eddy Historic House is located at 62 North State Street. Tours are available by appointment.

Located at 44 South Main Street, the Capitol Center for the Arts is the largest and most successful performing arts center in New Hampshire. With programming that runs from Broadway and ballet to country/western and comedy, your visit to The Center is always something special.

The place to be for Chinese and Japanese cuisine is Beijing Tokyo Restaurant at 61 South Main Street. Try the dry sauteed shrimp, the sushi, or the hot and sour soup. When you can't dine in, note that their delivery service also gets rave reviews.

The Red Blazer Restaurant and Pub serves American cuisine including hamburgers, seafood, chicken, and steaks. The contemporary American cuisine is accented by authentic Brazilian and Greek dishes. The restaurant features nightly entertainment, Thursday through Saturday. Visit them at 72 Manchester Street in Concord.

When your taste turns to Italian food, make your way to Angelina's Ristorante Italiano at 11 Depot Street. Allow me to suggest the Lasagna Carne. Angelina's severs lunch from 11:30am to 2pm, Monday through Friday. Dinner hours are 5-9pm Monday through Thursday, and 5-10pm on Friday and Saturday. Reservations are encouraged.
