Nashua, New Hampshire

Nashua is located in south-central New Hampshire at the Massachusetts border. Originally part of Dunstable, Massachusetts, Nashua was chartered in 1853, and was well known for its textile mills. Nashua is known today as the Gate City, and is part of Hillsborough County. Here is a map of Nashua.

Nashua is home to five colleges: Hesser College, Rivier College, Southern New Hampshire University, Daniel Webster College, and Nashua Community College.

Downtown Nashua is a great place to wander and explore. With 35 restaurants and over 100 stores and boutiques within walking distance, you are free to wander to your heart's content. Parking is available at a number of municipal parking garages. Grab a map of downtown and start walking!

No trip to Nashua would be complete without a shopping trip. As New Hampshire has no sales tax, residents of neighboring states travel to New Hampshire to shop on a regular basis. Located at the Massachusetts border at 310 Daniel Webster Highway, Pheasant Lane Mall is a popular Nashua destination.

The Nashua Historical Society is located at 5 Abbott Street. The Society maintains the Abbot-Spalding House and the Florence H. Speare Museum. Their mission: Preserving the Past for the Future.

Located at 151 Broad Street, the Nashua National Fish Hatchery offers free guided tours, lectures, and multimedia presentations. Hours are 8am to 4pm daily. It is recommended that tours be scheduled in advance by telephone. The Hatchery supports restoration efforts for Atlantic salmon, American shad, and other aquatic species.

In Nashua, the restaurant that folks are raving about is Michael Timothy's at 212 Main Street. This urban bistro and wine bar features an Afternoon Menu from 3-5pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Selections from the Dinner Menu are available after 5pm. Sunday Brunch is available 10am to 2pm. Enjoy live jazz piano at Michael Timothy's every Sunday.

Other notable restaurants include Surf Restaurant at 207 Main Street, Golden Dragon at 300 Main Street, Country Tavern at 452 Amherst Street, and Bob's Pizza at 115 East Hollis Street.

Gerald Charles Dickens is coming from London to do a one man show of his great great grandfather's acclaimed A Christmas Carol at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The hotel is located at 2 Somerset Parkway in Nashua, and performances are scheduled for December 3rd, 2009 at 1pm and 7pm.
