Rockland, Maine

The city of Rockland is located along the Maine coast at the southwest entrance to Penobscot Bay. It was first settled about 1769 and was chartered as a city in the year 1854. Rockland developed from the industries of shipbuilding and lime production. Here is a map of Rockland.

The Maine Lighthouse Museum at 1 Park Drive offers the largest collection of Lighthouse artifacts in the country. Adult admission is $5, children are free. This year's Maine Lobster Festival was a great success, and everyone is looking forward to next year. Mark your calendar now for July 29 to August 2, 2009. In addition to the great festival food, there is a big parade, a crate race, and live entertainment. Pay a visit to the festival web site and read about the unique wedding proposal made at this year's event.

When visiting Rockland, be sure to spend some time on or near the water. Ride the ferry to the islands of Matinicus, North Haven, or Vinalhaven. Spend some time with someone special as you walk the 7/8 mile breakwater to the Breakwater Lighthouse. When you return, you are sure to be hungry...

Primo is a world class restaurant inside a restored Victorian home. Their focus on serving the freshest possible ingredients has led them to turn their grounds into extensive garden spaces. Visit Primo at 2 South Main Street.

Located at 15 Oak street, Cafe Miranda serves Italian, Thai, Mex, Armenian, and more. Many dishes are cooked in a wood-fired brick oven. The dinner menu is extensive and includes dishes such as Jalepeno Polenta, Calimari Marinara, and a dish called "It's Spring Somewhere" (Roasted aspergrass, caramelized onion, sweet peppers, and locatelli.)

The Rockland Cafe at 441 Main Street serves seafood, prime rib, pork chops, burgers, sandwiches, and more. Try their new low-carb menu. The Rockland Cafe is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
